Blob Man Rising: A Mysterious Geoglyph Appears in an Arcata Field
A giant, naturally forming geoglyph (that’s even more mysterious than a crop circle) is dancing in a field outside of Arcata, folks. Mark Harris, the pilot and attorney who took this photo, calls it Blob Man Rising.
Could the beast have awakened in response to a need? Does it have spiritual significance? Does anyone have answers?
Don’t have answers, folks? Don’t worry. Neither do we. But we love the whimsical joy of this vision from the air.

Built by an as of yet to be discovered ancient indigenous frog worshipping people.
That sounds like a ribbeting idea.
lol
Yes, from the Humboldt Swamplands, the Ranidae.
I recognize that area… went by there this morning on the way to the beach. The critter was there for Google, too… zooming in, i see some sort of metal equipment at the tip of one of its feet. Maybe it’s some kind of filtering or leaching field? Only the ranchers know for sure… they might be into some spooky stuff, who knows?!
that’s where the frog prince lives
I wonder if it is a residual vestige of the the historic Mad River Canal or associated log ponds?

Mark Harris is a douche. Slimy as fuck. I know, this has nothing to do with article, but still…
Absolutely disagree with you. I’ve just spent a considerable amount of time with him on the phone today and he was helping other people (including me) just because he was concerned about the community. As a reporter I have to note that Harris is an advertiser on this site so you can make your own conclusions about whether or not that influences me. But whether he advertises here or not, his behavior every time I’ve been around him, has impressed me very much. In fact, I can’t think of many other people I would be more proud to call a friend.
Love it! Nature does its thing and sparks our imaginations!!
Mark is a saint all he does is get everyone out of trouble. Consult for free all day long if he’s got your back consider yourself safe! [edit]
It appears to be remnants of the upper reaches of Mad River Slough. There is a lot of low land that doesn’t drain. More visible this year because of all the rain? The shape just happens to be a frog star. 🙂 Lucky, I guess.
It looks like a black frog. Its funny on a Gloomy Monday
