[UPDATE 8:02 p.m.] Possible Explosive Device in Rio Dell, Evacuations Reported

Rio Dell Police blocked off streets and evacuated at least two residents from or near an address on Dixie Street around 5 p.m. today, according to a woman who lives nearby. She says that she was sitting on her porch when an officer came by and told her to go inside and stay there.

Scanner traffic indicates that officers believe there may be some sort of explosive device in a home on Dixie.

UPDATE 5:45 p.m.: The Rio Dell resident is telling us that the number of fire and police personnel have increased in the area.

UPDATE 7:35 p.m.: “They have widened the perimeter one block on each side,” explained the resident.

UPDATE 7:45 p.m.: Two different residents are telling us that the bomb squad is on the scene. The brightly lit area at the far end of the street is reportedly where the bomb squad is located.

UPDATE 8:05 p.m.: One resident is telling me that everyone is leaving and she did not hear an explosion.
