Mattole Road Blocked By Slide

Rocks and mud spilled onto Mattole Road before 2:45 p.m. today. The California Highway Patrol reported that the road, which is also known as “The Wildcat,” is closed at the base. They also reported that this is a “longterm” closure.

The Ferndale Police Department wrote on their Facebook page:

12006691_672192462917372_1155654996104625886_oThe “The Wildcat” or Mattole Rd has been closed by CHP due to a non-passable Mud Slide approximately one mile from Ferndale. An alternative route to Petrolia or surrounding [areas] would be Monument Rd in Rio Dell. Be aware of your surroundings and if you see a roadway hazard, contact CHP or the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department.

Update 5:20 p.m.: CHP reports the “best estimate for opening [is] Wednesday.”
