[UPDATED 9 p.m.:] Road Overview (Psst, Stay Home If You Can!)

Water is dropping by the bucketful on the Emerald Counties today. Our highways are seriously taking a beating. Here’s the latest as of 1:40 p.m. but we will update each road as more information comes in.

Hwy 299- Closed by Big Bar. No estimated time of reopening

Hwy 254 (Avenue of the Giants): Clear.

Hwy 101- UPDATE 9:30 p.m.: One way controlled traffic north of Leggett at Mendocino mile marker 93.39. There is a slide which has taken down a power pole. Also, there is a slide at the northbound onramp near Dean Creek. “Extended closure,” says the California Highway Patrol Incident page.

Hwy 96– Slide near Happy Camp still passable with delays at this point. Check Caltrans Quick Map for the latest.

Hwy 36- As of 7 p.m.: The road is showing clear. Check Caltrans Quick Map for the latest.

Hwy 3- Closed. Check Caltrans Quick Map for the latest.

Bluffs between Redway and Garberville: Closed between Evergreen Road and Bear Canyon Road at least til tomorrow is what we’re being told.

The Bluffs north of Redway:  Are trying to make a run for it but so far our local crews are keeping it clear!

McCann Ferry: Shut down, possible start-up on Tuesday, January 19.

Alderpoint Road: One lane at m.p. 32.4 near Charles Bar.

Old Arcata Road: Flooded at Ole Hanson, dangerous, travel at own risk.

Hookton Road: Closed due to flooding.

Eel River Drive: Flooded.

Glendale Drive: Closed due to flooding.

Stagecoach Road: Closed.

Ettersburg Road: One lane at slide south of Elementary School.

Freshwater Road: Closed ¼ mile in from Old Arcata to Garfield School.

Howard Heights Road: Closed.

Mitchell Road in Weitchpec: Now open

Holmes Flat at Chad Creek : Flooded.

West Coast Road in SoHum: Flooded.

Fieldbrook Road: Flooded across near Park Lane.

Hatchery Road Closed at  West End Road: Flooded entirely across.

Crannell Road: Closed at Dows Prairie due to flooding.

Fickle Hill Road: Open

Dyerville Loop Road: Unpassable at mile post 14.75 due to slide.

Camp Kimtu Road: Flooded across.

Mad River Road: Closed due to flooding.
Elk River Road: Flooding

Really appreciate the updates….. the big slide on 299 is closer to Del Loma. It is at Big French Creek.

Report is a slide on the Ettersburg Rd. 2 miles south of Dutieville Rd.
second hand report that the road is closed. Honeydew Creek has closed Wilder Ridge rd from the North.
Power lines down on Briceland-Thorn Rd.
over the Mendo county line. Whale Gulch fire has been dispatched.
Whale Gulch fire at scene, it’s a phone line with a small tree on it. Traffic has been going through.

Just went through a good amount of rocks & mud across both lanes of the bluff road north of Redway

101 north of Redway has a hazard. The first creek south of the slide (the big slide that closed the road a couple years ago)…that first creek south of the slide has blown out, water running 6″ deep across all lanes. The water is about 30′ wide across the pavement. Definitely danger ous for small cars or vehicles moving too fast.
