[UPDATE: Open!] Vehicle Accident With Extrication on Hwy 36
A vehicle is overturned in a ditch with an occupant trapped inside according to scanner traffic and the California Highway Patrol Incident page. The accident occurred around mile marker 20.5
The vehicle was reported shortly before 3 p.m as having struck a tree. Power lines are down. Emergency crews are responding.
UPDATE 3:06 p.m.: According to traffic on the scanner, the driver has managed to get out of the vehicle but a power pole is down and blocking the road.
UPDATE 3:15 p.m.: The vehicle is reportedly 50 feet over the bank and power lines are down “in both directions,” according to the incident commander at the scene.
UPDATE 3:25 p.m.: Both directions of Hwy 36 are completely blocked. Currently there is no estimated time of reopening. According to the California Highway Patrol Incident page, “The roadway may be closed for quite awhile.”
UPDATE 3:52 p.m.: PG&E is not expected to arrive on scene until approximately 4:30 p.m.
UPDATE 4:18 p.m.: The road is now open to one way controlled traffic.
UPDATE 5:25: The Highway is now open.
