Suspect Sent to Hospital After Crashing Stolen Jeep During Multiple Chases

A suspect led law enforcement officers on multiple chases and crashed multiple times before ending up in the hospital.

Before 6 p.m. on Friday, a suspect reportedly stole a white 1993 Jeep Wrangler from the 900 block of Broadway in Eureka. A Facebook BOLO quickly emerged saying, “Let’s share the shit out of this so we can catch the assholes who took it.”

Around 6:30 p.m., an Arcata Police Department officer spotted the Jeep in a Safeway parking lot. The suspect reportedly fled when approached, but soon crashed into a truck. The suspect continued to flee after the crash, and officers discontinued their pursuit.

A little before midnight, our reporter Bobby Kroeker witnessed law enforcement officers chasing the Jeep in Eureka. “[The chase] went back and forth on 6th,” he said. “[The suspect] took out stop signs and such.”

Eventually, the Jeep crashed into a parked Hyundai SUV at Seventh and O Streets. Kroeker said the suspect attempted to flee on foot, but officers quickly took him into custody.

Shortly after, an ambulance took the suspect to St. Joseph Hospital, where medical personnel treated him for head injuries.
