DUI Driver Flees Traffic Stop, Gets in Accident on Briceland Road, Says CHP
This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On January 10, 2016, at approximately 0320 hours, CHP officers initiated an enforcement stop for a violation of California Vehicle Code section 22450(a), failure to stop at a stop sign.
The CHP officer activated the patrol vehicle’s Code 3 lights and siren, the Toyota continued traveling westbound on Briceland Road at a steady speed for a short time. Due to the driver’s intoxicated state, he allowed the Toyota to leave the roadway travel up an embankment and roll over to its roof coming to rest in both east and westbound lanes of Briceland Road.
Both lanes of Briceland Road were closed as Fire personnel extracted both trapped parties from the vehicle.
Due to the collision the passenger, Michael Lyon, age 59, was transported to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital in Garberville by ambulance to be treated for his injuries.
The Driver, Alexander Lyon, age 30, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Jail in Eureka.
