[UPDATE 1/6] Foot Pursuit Near McKinleyville High School

scanner featureHumboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were pursuing a juvenile male on foot near the high school in McKinleyville at approximately 2 p.m. According to scanner traffic, the juvenile is wanted for stealing his mother’s car and driving under the influence.

The car appears to have been located.

At 2:06 p.m., scanner traffic has the officer reporting an “additional subject running southbound from the baseball field” at McKinleyville high school.

This is an ongoing situation and we’ll be bringing you updates as soon as possible.

UPDATE 2:29 p.m.: Some officers are with the stolen vehicle at Smug’s Pizza and others are attempting to find the suspects.

UPDATE 2:50 p.m.: According to the scanner, one suspect is in custody.

UPDATE 1/6 p.m.: Update from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at approximately 2 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding a vehicle that was reported stolen the previous night. The vehicle was stolen from Chance Lane, McKinleyville by a 14 year old male juvenile suspect. The vehicle was reported to be located in front of Smug’s Pizza on Central Ave. Deputies responded and the juvenile suspect fled on foot from deputies. Deputies pursued the juvenile on foot but soon lost the suspect in a nearby wooded area. Approximately one hour later the juvenile was reported to be near a residence on Chance Lane. Deputies responded and were able to apprehend the juvenile without incident. Neither the juvenile nor deputies were injured during this incident.

The juvenile was transported to Juvenile Hall where he was booked for vehicle theft; resisting arrest; and failure to obey orders of juvenile court.

Why on earth waste resources chasing him. The car was recovered. He will go home (eventually) and pick him up when his mom calls. Stupid deputies have to put on the big show of running after him? Lame
