[UPDATE: Shelter in Place!] Crash (and Leaking Propane Truck) Closes Hwy 199 Near Oregon Border
According to Caltrans, Hwy 199 closed after an accident involving a propane truck. A Facebook post states, “U.S. 199 (Redwood Highway) milepost 30, near the California/ Oregon border south of Cave Junction…is closed due to a crashed, leaking propane truck. Power lines are down. A detour is being set up using Rockydale and Waldo Roads, south of Cave Junction. Expect delays. Watch for emergency vehicles.”
UPDATE 1:46 p.m.: According to Caltrans, officials in the area are asking residents to “shelter in place” due to leaking propane. Photos in the embedded Caltrans page.
UPDATE 2:14 p.m.: KDRV News is reporting that the road is now open but travelers might experience short delays.

The Caltrans photo shows a Blue Star Gas tanker. I hope nobody was injured.
Me too.
First thing we noticed when we drove by was half a dozen power poles sheared off and dangling from their wires. Then we saw the giant propane truck lodged in a grove of trees. Could have been much worse!
