Rescue Swimmer Pulls Woman to Safety From Bay
At about 10:15 p.m., a Humboldt Bay Fire Department swimmer went into the water searching for a reported person in Humboldt Bay at the foot of Commercial Street. The scanner said, “One reported female in the water between the 1091 and the lifeboat.”
Later dispatch said, “Two swimmers on scene; one swimmer in the water.” More swimmers and a board requested.
At 10:18 p.m., “Rescuers have made contact with the victim,” said Dispatch. “He’s taking her to the shore.”
At 10:19 p.m., “The rescue swimmer and the victim are on land.”
UPDATE 10:26 p.m.: In the photo below the woman rescued is on the stretcher as emergency personnel wheel her away.
UPDATE 10:36 p.m.: According to scanner traffic, the 44-year-old woman has normal vital signs.

Excellent! I fell in the bay a long time ago. That water is cold!
I’m going to step out on a limb here and make an assumption. The area where she fell in is a big druggy, bum hang out. They sit around all day and night drinking and doing drugs. If they were being responsible citizens, this might not have happened and tied up our resources.
