[UPDATE] High Speed Pursuit Ends in Crash

scannerAs of 8:31 p.m., chatter on the scanner indicates that a California Highway Patrol officer is pursuing a fleeing vehicle northbound from Weott on Hwy 101. Speeds are reaching 90-100 miles per hour.

A red truck appears to have been sideswiped by the fleeing vehicle during the pursuit.

He’s in the number two lane “turning his lights off,” says the pursuing officer at about 8:39 p.m.

Somewhere in here he turned south.

The fleeing vehicle is now westbound on Salmon Creek Road. Please stay off the road.

UPDATE 8:47 p.m.: We’re hearing that a traffic accident occurred on French Road.

UPDATE 8:51 p.m.: Solo vehicle accident on Salmon Creek Road. “A vehicle accident after pursuit,” says dispatch.

UPDATE 9:03 p.m.: Updated location of accident is “1.2 miles west of Hwy 101 on Salmon Creek Road.”

UPDATE 9:09 p.m.: Patient self-extricated, alert and oriented according to dispatch.

UPDATE 9:23 p.m.: Reportedly the accident is up Salmon Creek Road about a 1/2 mile past Maple Hills Bridge.

UPDATE 9:26 p.m.: One way controlled traffic.

UPDATE 9:35 p.m.: According to a witness, the vehicle that crashed is a white 2002 Toyota Tacoma extra cab. It went over the embankment.

“I saw a female in handcuffs,” said another witness.

UPDATE 11/3: This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On the night of Monday, November 2, a female driver was involved in a non-injury traffic collision after being in a short high speed pursuit.

At approximately 8:26 p.m., the California Highway Patrol attempted to make a traffic stop on a speeding Toyota Tacoma which was headed southbound US-101 near Scotia.  The Tacoma failed to yield to the Officer.  A short pursuit ensued ranging in speeds from 85 to 105 miles per hour.  The Tacoma exited westbound onto Salmon Creek Road.  After continuing on Salmon Creek Road for approximately one mile the Tacoma lost control, left the roadway, and collided into a tree.  The driver was identified as 23 year old Sierra Woodard Marshall of Redway.  Marshall was taken into custody for failure to yield and suspicion of DUI.
