One Juvenile Dead After Collision in Stolen School Van

This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On 10/25/2015, at approximately 0500 hours, a male juvenile was driving a Ford van, (stolen vehicle from the Laytonville Unified School District) eastbound on Branscomb Road, at an unknown speed.  For an unknown reason, the juvenile made an unsafe turning movement to the right, overcorrected to the left, and lost control of the vehicle in a northeasterly direction.  The juvenile ran the Ford van off the north roadway edge and collided with a tree.  This impact caused one of the unbelted passengers (juvenile) to be ejected from the vehicle onto the north shoulder of Branscomb Road.  As the vehicle continued moving in an easterly direction, the Ford van collided with the ejected passenger on the north roadway edge.

As a result of this traffic collision, the ejected passenger sustained fatal injuries.  The use of alcohol and/or drugs was not determined to be a factor in this collision.

Either the laws of physics weren’t holding or something is wrong with this description… like maybe the unbelted kid was hanging out the OPEN side door or right by it and the back tires drove over him as he dropped. Or he was on top of the van, got shot in front of it and run over, but from seated inside and ejected and run over, I can’t see it… not if the van was going fast enough not to be stopped by the tree.

In any case, like I said before, this kind of bloodcurdling tragedy is one of the few things that has not changed over the course of my life… teens getting themselves killed doing wild and harebrained things for kicks… and crushing their parents and their communities as they go.

RIP little one.
