Youth Killed in School Van Joyride
Tim Henry, the principal of Laytonville High School, confirmed around 5 a.m. this morning, one of his students was in a school van which crashed on Branscomb Road.
A reader who described the incident as joyriding tells us that there were multiple boys involved in the incident though Henry would not confirm this.
Henry says the community will be dealing with a lot of pain. “It’s going to be hard for the students….and teachers and the families. A lot of people are affected by this. We’ve got to grieve.”
A request to the CHP for more information has not yet been returned.

So sad! Praying for all! 🙁
You know, it’s just struck me that this is one of the very few things that has not changed in my lifetime. Teens still kill themselves mid-immortality. And it still hurts just the same too.
My heart is breaking for my hometown. Prayers with everyone back home. 💔🙏🏼❤️
He was a great kid we are going to miss him it’s not going to be the same without him.
The headline says “joyride” but the article addresses nothing of the sort.
I amended the story to show where I got the “joyride.” CHP has not confirmed the details.
I can’t find details of this story anywhere. Or even the existance of it except for here on Kym’s site. Doesn’t seem typical to me. Any idea why this might be?
My guess: It occurred on a weekend and losing a school kid in a school vehicle has everyone wanting to be perfect so it’s taking longer than usual.
I called this morning and a press release was promised today though.
Such a shame and sad time for that small community. My heart breaks for all family’s God bless you all
Hope u r haveing a better time than
you were 12 hours ago bro…miss you already bro but we will c u again someday
I’m so sorry to the family’s that are involved in this terrible thing. Be strong
I am so sorry for your loss. Life doesn’t seem fair at times. Never never easy losing someone especially a child.
In the future you will see him again. Just a short time away. My condolences to the whole family.
How did these kids get in the van? Were the keys left in it? Are the school fleet
easily accessible?
Well I would assume and theorize that a lack of departmental oversight would be responsible for obtaining keys for vehicle. And then to get vehicle out of a locked compound is another thing but maybe keys for both were obtained at the same time. Hope we’ll have some answers soon to prevent this type of thing in the future.
