[UPDATE 9:37 p.m. Road Closed Most of Night] Water Main Break Flooding Myrtle

imageA water main break just before 8 p.m. sent a “significant amount of water” across the intersection near Myrtle and Devoy Road.

“We are going to have to shut down eastbound Myrtle at Hall Avenue,” reports traffic control via the scanner. Later, the report comes that the “break is affecting most of Myrtletown.” Many of Lost Coast Outpost readers are reporting no water in their homes.

Scanner traffic indicates that crews are attempting to shut down the water.

Our reporter on site, Oliver Cory, says it looks like more water is pouring onto the road.

UPDATE 9 p.m.: Both north and southbound traffic is now stopped. More photos from the scene.

Any idea if Myrtle Ave will be accessible in the morning? I plan to go to Vector’s pool but if the road will be flooded, or if the pool will be closed, I will change my plans. I realize it’s probably too soon to know, but when it’s known, if someone will post here I will check before I drive in from Blue Lake. Thanks! And so sorry, Myrtletown and the whole flooded area. I hope this will be fixed soon.
