Fire West of Blocksburg

cal fireFirefighters are responding to a new fire in southeastern Humboldt this evening. Crews are hiking deep into the lands within the burned over area of the Winchester Fire which was part of the Lightning Complex. Though that fire which was ignited this July has long been considered controlled, it either reignited or, less likely, there was a new start.

“We got a report of smoke in the area of Dyerville Loop and Seven Mile area,” explained Battalion Chief Marty Hobbs. “There’s a single tree burning directly west of Blocksburg…We’re walking crews in right now.”

Hobbs says the flames are inside the old fire lines and not expected to go far. “Helicopters dropped about 10 buckets.” he said. “We’re going to mop it up.”

Thank you, again, brave firefighters. You are heroes in every sense of the word.
