Elves Desperately Needed: Let’s Get Toys to Children of Valley Fire Victims

Lights-3

The Valley Fire was the Nightmare Before Christmas for many children whose homes were destroyed when flames ripped through Lake County killing four and leaving thousands homeless. Pay It Forward Humboldt’s Desirae Hadley wants to change that by bringing Christmas in October to the kids who were impacted.

“We wanted to bring the children a smile,” Hadley said. “They’ve seen…I can’t even imagine…having everything you own destroyed is unimaginable.” She’s asking for toys and books (no clothing) to bring down this Saturday.

With twinkling lights and candy canes already appearing in stores, maybe Hadley’s idea might work. But she’s worried. Not as many toys have been donated as there are children expected to show up.

“We have a whole trailer I wish we could fill!!” she wrote. “I need it by tomorrow night I have to leave town early Saturday. This is the last 24 hours. The children will be coming by Hardesters in Middletown this Saturday at 2pm. I will be there with a van of some toys, but unfortunately we are very short!”

If you want to make sure there are enough toys for all the kids, you can drop off donations at the Lithia dealership in Eureka by Friday at 7 p.m. so Hadley can head down to Lake County early Saturday morning! Unwrapped gifts needed for all ages from babies through teenagers– new or very gently used toys or books.

Does she want them wrapped or not, &is there a need for wrapping paper, tape &/or folks to wrap the toys? I am sure am not alone in having extra wrapping paper around the house. Also the grocery outlet in eureka has some less expensive toys, & I would recommend contacting the manager at the eureka Costco, they are usually great with donations 🙂

Also, a good place to get toys for all ages is Tuesday Morning behind WinCo.

Since she will be driving south with these toys anyway it might make sense to arrange a Southern Humboldt drop off point that she could collect on the way down.
