On Saturday October 3, 2015 Arcata Fire District and Arcata Police Department cordially invite the community to celebrate National Fire Prevention Week. We will be having our annual open house and safety fair located at the newly renovated Arcata Fire Station at 631 9th street in Arcata from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
There will be many activities to see and do for everyone. Come learn about fire safety, car seat safety, water and boating safety, and crime prevention. Come see the inside of our new station, as we will be giving tours every hour. Learn how to put out a fire by using a fire extinguisher, explore a real life U.S. Coast Guard rescue boat, or see what’s inside an ambulance.

This year’s National Fire Prevention Week’s theme is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep:Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm.” Arcata Fire District takes part in National Fire Prevention Week to remind residents about the importance of fire and life safety.

“In 2014, there were over 3,270 fire related deaths in America. Firefighters across the nation responded to over 494,000 structure fires and there was $9.8 billion in property damage” says Jenny Williamson Fire Prevention Specialist.

“By coming to events like our open house or other events similar to this across the nation we hope to educate families about the importance of working smoke alarms and home escape planning and how they can help keep you and your family safe” says Fire Chief Desmond Cowan.

Hello, my name is Vince and I am with United Bikers of Northern California. Your coverage of the motorcycle ride last weekend was well done. Our organization (UBNC) puts on a number of events every year (example, Toy Run, Vets Ride, Samoa All Bikes by the Bay, Canned Food Ride just to name a few) and I would like to extend a welcome to you to join us at our events. UBNC supports local charities such as the Eureka Rescue Mission, The Food Bank, The Senior Resource Center and others. This coming Tuesday (10-6-15) UBNC will be presenting the Food Bank with another donation. If you can you are welcome to join us at 7:00pm at Angelos Pizza on Tuesday 10-6-15
