[UPDATE 7:25 p.m 6700 Acres, 30% Contained] Valley Fire: Over 100 Square Miles and Only 15% Containment [The Latest Maps]
In the sidebar to the right, are the latest tweets about the #ValleyFire.
Here are three different maps of the fire:
- Zoom into this one to get lots of detail but it takes time to load. (From images taken at 2 a.m. on the 15th.)
- A 3D Google Earth Map–you’ll need Google Earth for this (Click here to get a feel for what the landscape of the fire is like.)
- A geometric shape map that gives you the basic areas and is usually the most current. See below.
One of the saddest stories of the fire has been that of a disabled woman burned to death when she was not evacuated prior to the flames incinerating her home.
Below the woman’s caretaker relates the nightmare of how the woman died in her home during Valley Fire.

Oh my gosh. That story above about Barbara, that is so unfortunate. This fire is just so devastating. RIP, Barbara.
Beyond unfortunate… Criminal!
Ever since you linked me to it last night I have been scouring my miserable memory banks for where it was that I met Barbara. I’m thinking just now that it was at one of the holiday dinners put on by the couple who used to own Anthony’s in Lakeport… and would’ve been maybe eight years ago. I can see her face and hear her voice. The haircut and smile are utterly familiar to me.
I just can’t get the exact full memory back.
And a big part of the problem is that most of the people who would have thought of her immediately and made sure she was safe are either dead themselves or moved away or out of state every summer or too senile to know what’s happening.
Still, I agree, too busy to evacuate a disabled person IS criminal.
May Barbara rest in peace.
