This fire brought home to me just how important it is to have a local fire company. The Alderpoint Volunteer Fire Department was able to respond in minutes where it would have taken over an hour to get fire fighters here from Garberville or Redway. It was windy this evening, and that fire could have spread through the whole town quickly. The AVFD was important in protecting us during the Steelhead fire, and members have been fighting the wildland fires for weeks. Everyone should support their local volunteers because they may be not just the first responders but the only responders.
