Emergency personnel are at the scene of a head-on traffic collision at mile marker 38.26 of Highway 299, which is just outside of Willow Creek. The collision occurred just before 1 p.m. According to the scanner, 299 is “completely shut down” at the scene of the accident. The CHP incident page says a red Ford Mustang and a black sedan were involved. We’ll post updates as we get more information.

Update 1:21 p.m.: At this point, possible injuries have been reported, but the number of injuries and the extent of the injuries is unknown. (At 1:25, a crew member said over the scanner, “At this time Hoopa Ambulance has one patient walking — ambulatory.”)

Update 1:27 p.m.: One lane of traffic has been opened.

Update 1:38 p.m.: Crews at the scene are attempting to clear the roadway.

Update 1:45 p.m.: Initially, injuries were reported over the scanner, but CHP has changed the classification of the accident to a non-injury traffic collision.

Update 1:55 p.m.: Two lanes of traffic have been opened.

  • Have to say it. People drive like idiots on 299. Speeding and unsafe passing. Who would be in that much of a hurry to get to Redding or Eureka?

  • The person in the sedan almost hit us twice. She was all over the road I thought she was drunk

Alan, I hope she was given a sobriety test, she may of been on Rx meds. So happy you made it safely home. As well as my beloved husband. I drive the 299 a lot for work and I see folks in a hurry for many of the days I commute. The same log truck drivers, personal vehicle drivers, beer distributor drivers. Pretty scary some days.

  • I was first to arrive on accident and the female driver of the car was actually a male driver. Glad no one was hurt but too bad he chose to drive under the influence.
