[UPDATE 7:31 p.m.]Law Enforcement in the Arcata Forest, Possible Deceased Individual
As of 5:30 p.m., the Arcata Police Department has multiple officers in the Arcata Forest off the 14th Street entrance. A spokesperson for them states, “We are currently up in the forest. There is a possibly deceased person.” However, he says that officers are just now “getting out there” so he didn’t have any more information available.
We will be contacting the APD again once they’ve gathered information.
However, our reporter, Oliver Cory tells me that there is a person laying on the ground down in a ravine face up.
UPDATE 6:43 p.m.: The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office is now on scene. (Photo at top and below by Oliver Cory.)
UPDATE 7:06 p.m.: According to Detective Sgt. Todd Dockweiler, “It doesn’t appear that there was foul play involved.” But he declined to elaborate on what had occurred.
UPDATE 7:31 p.m.: More photos from the scene by Oliver Cory.

More death in my beloved Humboldt? Sad reflection of the state of the World.
You keep your two cents out of this
There’s death everyday in Humboldt.
Excuse me Robert Jones..who are you to tell me to not express my opinion?
@Or were you telling Kym to keep her “two cents” out of this? Either way..it was rude and uncalled for.
Let’s not turn this into thunder dome now. Let’s keep it about the story. I was up there with my child playing on the swing at 5:30. Only one cop car on the playground side. Body must have been on the north side.
Well my point was the story. 3 deaths in the last week in Humboldt….simply sad. I have lived here since 1987 and the last couple of years just seems a bit out of control with tragedy.
People my age drop dead every day from sudden heart failure. (63 YO)
I was in that forest on Tuesday, it could have been me.
That would only have been a tragedy for me. You can’t control that but it would have been a nice way to go.
Sounds like a peaceful suicide in the redwoods.
