[UPDATE 9/9] Hwy 299 Closed Due to New Fire Near Weaverville, Mandatory Evacuations Begun

A fire near Weaverville has closed Hwy 299. Mandatory evacuations are underway for Little Browns Road.  A vehicle losing a tire reportedly caused a spark which turned into a quickly spreading wildfire.

UPDATE 4:47 p.m.:  Press release from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office:

At approximately 1555 hours (3:55pm) a brush fire was reported to the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office. The fire’s location is on Highway 299 near Little Browns Creek Road. The Sheriff’s Office has ordered mandatory evacuations for Little Browns Creek Road. Highway 299 is closed in both directions near the fire.

UPDATE 6:17 p.m.: The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office reports, “An evacuation center will be set-up at the First Baptist Church at 1261 S. Main Street in Weaverville.”
