Fatality on Hwy 101 Just North of Hwy 36

At approximately 10 p.m., law enforcement located a deceased pedestrian that had apparently been struck by a hit and run vehicle several hours earlier.

As of 11:15 p.m. officers were still in the field and we were unable to get any answers on what occurred. But from listening to scanner traffic, it appears that an individual witnessed something suspicious at approximately 8:15 p.m. that had law enforcement searching for hours for a victim of a hit and run alongside Hwy 101 near the Hwy 36 exit. At 9:40 p.m. an officer is listed as being en route to check the area for a pedestrian where the suspicious vehicle went off the roadway.* A thermal imaging device was even used to search the roadside to no avail. A stroller was found in the area the pedestrian was believed to be hit though. Soon after 10 p.m., the pedestrian was located. CPR was started but by 10:19 p.m. the coroner was requested.

*Actual notation reads: ENRT TO CHK THE AREA FOR A PED WHERE THE SUSP VEH WENT OFF THE RDWY

“Authorities are looking for an SUV type vehicle with front end damage that has a license plate number 5ZND366.” 2007 grey chev tahoe

now they’re getting down to it…i’m on team le for this one.

but
who the hell witnesses a person hit by a “small suv” but doesn’t stop and try to render ANY kind of aid?

makes me think the driver and the witness/911 caller/reporter are the same person/people.

anyone who listened to this awful event play out will attest to several things not adding up.

As I was walking my puppy at around 10 am. I was also almost struck by a speeding white ford escape, as I was crossing the crosswalk near the Shell in Rio Dell. The vehicle accelerated and headed out of town northbound on wildwood. I’d assume they got on the 101 but do not know for sure. Be careful pedestrians, drivers think they own the road.

I hope it wasn’t Larry. He pushes a stroller with some of His belongings in it around there. I saw him couple months ago in Fortuna about 4am, he was walking in the road wearing all dark clothes pushing his stroller.

There are a lot of out of state license plates right now. HSU has a big incoming class of 1285 with majority from L.A., like 70-80%. I wish the university would give out a “how to live respectfully in humboldt” type document and students outta pay double fine as we pay for the public services to help them when they cause accidents. I’ve seen three almost multi car collisions this week on the corridor in No Hum. Doing 70 mph in 50 zone and tailgating with just a few feet between cars. The chp could be raking it in, so many folks speeding with lights off while talking on phone. 3 tickets rite there!!!! Not sayin this was done by a student, have just seen people driving super crappy w.hsu parkin permits on their car.

Homeless people step right into traffic daily, it’s so annoying. ( not saying that’s what this guy did I’m just saying).

Once it starts raining they’ll be cryin’ and stayin’ in. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

It was Larry it makes me sick he was a very nice person with a huge heart.we went to school together and he helped me when I was down on my luck. He was truely a good friend.and that piece of work needs to be locked up in the pen.what kind of person leaves a man there to die. She needs to have her license taken away forever we don’t need people like her on the roads or streets. And she needs to be held responsible for killing Larry
