scannerAccording to scanner traffic at approximately 5:30 p.m., there is a confirmed structure fire out Alderpoint Road which is spreading into the surrounding vegetation. We haven’t been able to determine location yet.

UPDATE 5:58 p.m.: The fire is reported to be on Little Buck Mountain Road. According to the scanner, the structure is fully involved.

UPDATE 8:42 p.m.: Screen grab of a map of the approximate area covered by the Buck Incident provided by Cal Fire. According to Laura Coleman the fire is burning south to southeast.

mapUPDATE 9:58 p.m.: Laura Coleman from Cal Fire tells us that the Little Buck Mt. Fire “isn’t growing but it isn’t contained.” There are close to 200 personnel battling the blaze overnight, she explained. “They are aggressively suppressing the fire but it is not contained.” Extra water tenders and strike teams are being brought to fight the flames, she said.

Residents should “stay extremely vigilant” tonight, Coleman warned. She asks that people in the area have their vehicles packed and ready for evacuation. “If they are asked to evacuate, they need to do that,” she stated.

Coleman said that Cal Fire had “a lot of helpful people” call in with gate combos and information. This allowed her agency to concentrate on getting to the fire. Unfortunately, a few locks had to be cut.

Why do fires always seem to be on the absolute hottest days of the year. I feel for you firefighters, heavy hot yellow suits, lots of suffocating smoke and physical exhaustion.

Friend traveling south on 101 reports seeing smoke east of Benbow/Reed Mtn area about 20 min ago — could this be the Buck fire (just seen at different angle) — have friends living up in that area with small children & we can’t reach them. Thanks.

I heard a chopper and watched it fly due N to 4 corners at Fruitland. Definitely an empty water bladder trailing. Followed just about dusk by the spotter plane, also due N on the 4 Corners/ Fruitland flight path

Kym is right! It was a water bucket, not weed. Saw it both times it passed by Fruitland.
