[UPDATE: Road Open] Tree Falls on the Avenue, Lines Down, Road Closed

According to a California Highway Patrol spokesperson, a tree fell between Redcrest and Pepperwood on the Avenue of the Giants. The tree tore down several power lines. CHP received reports that the lines were sparking and across both sides of the road. The Avenue is now closed at this spot with no estimated time of reopening.

Eli Rohl, a spokesperson for Caltrans, said, “PG&E is handling traffic control and they expect to have the road open by 5:30.”

PG&E says that there are 242 customers without electricity in the Stafford area at this time.

UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: Caltrans posted on their Facebook page that the road has been reopened.
