Black Sedan Lands in the Water

Update 4:05 p.m.: The Eureka Police Department (EPD), Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance responded to a black Mazda 3 that went over an embankment and landed in the water near West Sixth Street and Highway 101 (see map below) today before 2:45 p.m.

“They were leaving the Chevron Station and went over the embankment,” EPD’s Jon Omey said.

Omey said the two people were able to successfully get themselves out of the vehicle to safety. According to the scanner, the man had a cut to the finger, and the woman was complaining of hip and shoulder pain. The woman was transported to the hospital by City Ambulance.

EPD officers at the scene seemed baffled by how the accident could have occurred.

“They kind of went over and then swam out,” Omey said as he motioned toward the embankment and the water.

Original Post: At approximately 3 p.m. today, a blue sedan  somehow ended up in the Humboldt Bay near 2525 Fourth Street in Eureka. [These details came from the scanner and turned out to be incorrect] The vehicle’s occupants, a man and a woman, have gotten out of the vehicle with minor injuries.

Our reporter, Oliver Cory, is on the scene and will update with photos and more information as soon as possible.

[Reporter’s note: This story has been corrected from a previous version that incorrectly stated the color of the vehicle and the location. RHBB regrets this error.]

that’s awesome! great picture, too!
way back when people would dispose of their old cars in the bay before there were junkyards, as enviro “laws” pass and make junkyards a thing of the past people will return to using the bay, or back roads of Hayfork to junk their unwanted cars.

it’s good to know that some people still do things the old school way.

Want to get rid of a car? Park it on HWY 36 between Bridgeville and Dinsmore. First night, looted and broken windows. Second night, wheels and everything else taken off. Third night, torched. Standard issue.

I left a car that had prolly 3000 parking tickets on it in front of a liquor store in Harlem with the keys in it running, back in the 80’s. There were so many parking tickets that they were used to stuff the missing foam from the passenger seat. Mind you this was before computers and parking tickets sat in some file cabinet somewhere and I never registered it.
That car would be a “classic” and I see the model at some car shows from time to time. I often wonder what happened to it and what the new “owner” thought about those parking tickets. Oh, the good old days before America was torn down…
