‘Sharp Increase’ in Wildfires This Year, Says Cal Fire
The following is a press release from CAL FIRE:
Humboldt-Del Norte – The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection CAL FIRE Humboldt Del-Norte Unit (CAL FIRE HUU) is advising people to be aware and cautious this weekend. The weather is getting hotter and dryer and overall fire activity is increasing. The increase is approximately 1,000 more wildfires this year than this time last year, statewide. CAL FIRE HUU has responded to 67 more wildfires from June 1st to July 17th 2015 compared to June 1st to July 17th 2014. This is a sharp increase.
With California well into the fourth year of drought, conditions across the state and in Humboldt Del Norte Counties are much drier than normal. These dry conditions make it much easier for a wildfire to ignite and to burn hotter and faster than than we would normally see this time of year.
CAL FIRE urges everyone to review http://www.readyforwildfire.org/ for tips on how to be prepared for fire season. Check http://www.calfirehuu.org/ for updates and information and follow us on @CALFIRE_HUU.

We should have volunteers out driving around with megaphones reminding people about this.
