[UPDATE 2:18 P.M. Search Warrant Being Served for Sexual Assault Suspect] Law Enforcement Convoy Across From Miranda
We have received multiple reports of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office heading up a road by the Miranda exit from Hwy 101. (The road is known locally as French’s Road but Google Maps shows it as Givney or Gibney Road.) Reportedly there are ten vehicles–both marked and unmarked. There are reports of one detained, a K-9 unit, and a helicopter circling the area.
Donna Bowman, a neighbor, says she heard a gunshot about 9 a.m.
We will be following this closely.
UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: According to an eyewitness,
They dismissed the helicopter. Some of the sheriff rigs have left now. But they threw a roll of yellow ribbon from the road over the bank to another sheriff in the driveway then they walked the ribbon toward the house.
UPDATE 1:24 p.m.: More information from the eyewitness,
…the only vehicles left there I can see is a couple white pickups with canopies on them and an emblem on the door I think it’s a sheriff star, but I could be wrong. One in the driveway and one on the road above the house. There could be more I’m not seeing that is blocked by the trees. All of the black and whites that were out front have left.
UPDATE 2:20 p.m.: According to Lt. Dennis Young of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, this incident was related to serving a search warrant for kidnapping and sexual assault which occurred two days ago.
The warrant was served at 12:13 p.m. One person was detained and the area of the alleged assault was searched for evidence.
