SoHum Mobile Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday
On Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., there will be a Mobile Household Hazardous Waste Collection at the Caltrans Yard near Garberville on Bear Canyon Road.
Here’s what we were told,
No tires this time, but stashes of spent batteries (even car batteries!) and lightbulbs, used oil (even oil mixed with fuel or water, as long as its in a container no larger than a 5 gallon bucket), sharps, expired medications, paints and cleaning or pest control liquids that say Caution, Warning, Danger, Poison, or Flammable, “toxic”,
or “explosive”are all household hazardous waste. So are many grow lights – up to 10 florescents arefreecovered under the entrance fee and three HID bulbs are free ($2.50 a pop over three).
UPDATE: Do NOT bring:
- Explosives
- Radioactive Materials
- Biological Hazards (excluding medication & medical sharps)
- Ammunition
- Propane tanks larger than 1 qt
- More than the per item material limit
Fee for Households: $5.00 for up to 15 gallons or 125 lbs (combined total) per residential trip*
* Additional fees apply for excess amounts

can they take used “photo chemicals”
ive been needing to get rid of all these used chemicals siting around.
