Striking Out Veteran Homelessness
So yesterday was Memorial Day. You might have taken a moment on your holiday to remember those veterans who died…but how about today? And what about the living warriors?
North Coast Veterans Resource Center (NCVRC) has been working with Humboldt County veterans for more than 20 years. This year they are trying to raise money to supplement grants. They are having a softball tournament June 6 and 7 at Newburg Park in Fortuna. They are seeking teams (there will be an award for the team with the most veterans and another for the team with the most patriotic name.) You can form your own team or sign up to be drafted into a team. It costs $20 per person and you are guaranteed three games.
You can also sign up to sponsor the tournament but today is the last day to do this and get your name on the banner.
For more information, see the event’s Facebook page or call (707) 442-4322.

This is a really good organization that has helped lots and by that I mean LOTS of Vets get off the street and gives them a chance to regroup until they can get a place of their own in a regular home environment instead of a homeless shelter.
One of the Vets they helped was me and for that I will always be grateful to them.
Aw, Jim. That’s a sweet testimonial. I’m glad they were able to help you. I hope they raise a lot more money to help more vets.
They were also pretty much instrumental in backing and providing support for
the North Coast Stand Down, another separate organization that helps
homeless Vets, it happens every year in August at the Fairgrounds in Ferndale.
Having it at the Fairgrounds was my idea. lol
