Samoa Youth Dies in Accident Near Crescent City
Press release provided by the California Highway Patrol (CHP):
On May 20, 2015 at approximately 1535 hours, Crescent City Area CHP Officers responded to a fatal collision on US 101 at mile post 18.69. [Walter Ray Lindstrom, age 20, of Samoa]
was driving [a 1998 Honda] southbound on US-101 in wet roadway conditions. [He] attempted to pass traffic over solid double yellow lines at a high rate of speed in a left curve in the roadway. Due to his unsafe speed for conditions, [He] lost control of his vehicle and allowed it to cross the northbound lanes of traffic and leave the roadway where it collided with a tree. [Lindstrom] was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and it is unknown whether or not drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision .
