Man Holding Broken Guitar Neck Tasered After Smashing Window, Says EPD
On 05/15/15 at about 10:40 p.m., the Eureka Police Department communications center received multiple calls regarding a male swinging a broken guitar neck and walking down Broadway. An additional call was received for an audible alarm covering glass break at a business near the 2900 block of Broadway.
Officers responded and located Zachary Scudder (27 of Arcata) near Bayshore Way and Broadway. Scudder was shirtless and holding the guitar neck like a baseball bat and appeared to be under the influence. Scudder refused orders to drop the guitar and sit down. Scudder was speaking nonsensically and began to run from officers and towards a crowded restaurant. Based on the totality of the circumstances, Scudder was tased. He was then placed into handcuffs without further incident. Scudder was transported to the hospital by ambulance for precautionary clearance then was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
Surveillance from the business with the broken glass alarm was reviewed and it showed Scudder breaking the window. Scudder was arrested for malicious mischief, drunk in public, and resisting arrest.
