Press release provided by the Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods:
Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods will host Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit & Run competition this Sunday, May 10th from 11am-3pm at Eureka’s Halvorsen Park. Girls and boys ages 7-14 are invited to show up and participate in this FREE event, with the chances of advancing through to the finals this summer at the 2015 MLB™ All-Star Game® in Ohio.
Pitch, Hit & Run™ is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball®. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills.
Boys and girls are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14. This Sunday Eureka will send as many as 30 finalists on to the next level of competition in San Francisco May 16th. All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.
This event also kicks off Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods’ Junior Giants program taking place this summer. Junior Giants is a free, non-competitive, co-ed baseball program for underserved boys and girls, ages 5-13. Working together with local agencies, parents, and volunteers, Junior Giants offers youth a chance to learn the basics of baseball during the summer, while also discovering the importance of self-esteem and respect. Participants are taught the Junior Giants Four Bases of Character Development: Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork as well as fundamental lessons in Education, Health and Violence Prevention.
