HSO Warns of Blue Dot Card Scam

UPDATE 2/6: According to Patti Collins who says she was contacted by the scammers, she was told to purchase a green dot card not a blue dot card.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Press Release:

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn the public regarding a telephone scam. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office today has received approximately 10 separate telephones calls today from citizens, who all basically stated the following: 

A male subject call them stating he is with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division. He tells them that they have a warrant for failure to appear for Jury or Grand Jury duty. He states to avoid arrest they must buy a blue dot card in random amounts and provide him with the card number to retrieve the money. 

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office wants to advise the public that this person is not associated with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office or anyone else in law enforcement.
