SoHum Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested

Humboldt Co. Sheriff Press Release:

On 1-01-2014, at approximately 2:30 a.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s office was notified of a stabbing victim being treated at Jerold Phelps Hospital in Garberville. Deputies responded to the hospital and met with the 36 year old male victim from Phillipsville and his 28 year old girlfriend from Weott.

The victim and his girlfriend told deputies they were outside the rear entrance of the Blue Room Bar, in Garberville when the male suspect, later identified as Drew Jonathan Earhart, 40 years old, from Myers Flat, started an argument with a friend of the victim. The victim attempted to intervene in the argument and Earhart turned his attention towards the victim. The victim saw the suspect raise his hand over his head with an object in his hand and swing in downward at him. The victim held up his arm to deflect the blow, which would have struck the victim in the upper chest. Earhart then ran off on foot.

The victim realized after being struck, realized he was bleeding profusely from his forearm. The victim and his girlfriend walked around the corner to the hospital for treatment. The investigating deputies saw the victim had a deep gash on his left forearm that appeared to be from a sharp object.

At approximately 2:55 a.m., 01-01-2014, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a citizen who reported Earhart was parked in a Red Toyota 4-Runner vehicle near 773 Redwood Drive, Garberville and in possession of a knife. Deputies located the vehicle with Earhart in the driver’s seat. They detained Earhart who matched the description of the suspect who had been described to them by the victim and his girlfriend. The deputies saw Earhart had fresh blood on him. They recovered a bloody five inch long fixed blade knife from between the seats of the vehicle. The victim’s girlfriend responded to where Earhart was detained and identified him as the man who stabbed her boyfriend.

Earhart was booked into the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility on attempted murder. His bail was set at $500,000.00.
