Alleged U-Haul Thief Apprehended

Eureka Police Dept. Press Release:

On 7-14-13 at about 2:45 pm, while responding to an unassociated call for service, officers of the Eureka Police Department located Canyon Lee Backues (19 years old of Eureka) at the 2900 block of California Street. 

Backues was wanted in connection with the theft of a U-Haul truck, which took place on 7-7-2013. Backues was also taken into custody on two active felony warrants for his arrest. Both warrants were for possession of a controlled substance. 

A search incident to arrest of Backues’ person led to the recovery of a small amount of suspected methamphetamine. Backues was also taken into custody for the controlled substance violation. 

Backues was soon booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for the above listed violations. He is being held without bail. 

This is an open investigation and further details will be released as they become available.
