Southern Humboldt’s Top Citizens–People to be Proud of

Garberville Redway Area Chamber of Commerce Press Release:

Many of you have been making enquiries as to who was chosen Citizen of the Year 2012… well the short answer is no one, but not to worry we have some very exciting changes to announce.  First the decision was made to hold the dinner in the spring, then discussion regarding the Citizen of the Year Award took place.  It has become harder and harder to choose just one person to honor each year because this community is comprised of so many giving individuals.  Because of this, the Chamber has decided to retire the title Citizen of the Year and instead present Community Recognition Awards.  This years winners are as follows:

Decades of Dedication: Harold and Donna Mendes

Commitment to Community: Corinne Stromstad

Volunteer of the Year: John Casali

Hero of the Year: Shannon Robinson (see story here)

A very deserving group of individuals that have all made our community a better place.  We will be honoring them Thursday, May 23 at the Mateel Community Center.  Tickets are $30 and dinner will be catered by Moses Danser of Barbeque To You.  Doors open at 5:30 with a full no-host bar, Dinner will be served at 6:00 with award presentations and special guest speaker Supervisor Estelle Fennell to follow.  Reservations must be made in advance and tickets are limited.
