Accident on the Avenue of the Giants–Both Lanes Closed

UPDATE, MARCH 5 @ 9:16 a.m.:

From the California Highway Patrol:

On March 4, 2013 at approximately 5:30 pm, on Elk Creek Road east of SR-254, a 1995 Toyota Tacoma was traveling east on Elk Creek Road.  The Toyota crossed into the opposing lane of traffic and collided head on into a 1991 Chevy Van.  Both vehicles came to rest within the roadway and Elk Creek Road was closed in both directions for approximately 1 hour.  The driver of the Toyota, Faron Wayne Boldt of Myer’s Flat, CA, sustained major injuries and was arrested at the scene for suspected felony DUI.  Boldt was transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna, CA, and released to the hospital due to the severity of his injuries.  The driver of the Chevy sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital.  The California highway patrol, Garberville Area is investigating this collision.

The California Highway Patrol urges motorists to always wear their seatbelts and to not drink and drive.

UPDATE, 7:30 p.m.: Information now places the accident on Elk Creek Rd.  Traffic is open to one lane traffic.
