HC Sheriff Looks for Money to Support Off Highway Motor Vehicle Program

Humboldt Co. Sheriff Press Release:

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of applying for grant funding through the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle (OHMV) program.

Funds from the OHMV grant support the efforts of Sheriff’s Office’s Off Highway Vehicle program. Deputies who work this assignment have duties which include enforcement of state laws, federal regulations, and Humboldt County Ordinances in off highway areas. These deputies utilize all terrain vehicles and four wheel drives to patrol areas where off highway vehicle activity is present. Deputies utilizing this grant assist with OHV visitor safety, education, enforcement and search and rescue efforts. Additionally, the deputies provide law enforcement information and education regarding environmental issues and conservation concerns about the county’s beaches and dunes. The deputies work closely with volunteer organizations and various user groups that are concerned with off-highway vehicle usage.

Beginning, Tuesday, March 5, 2013 through Monday April 1, 2013, a draft of the grant application will be available for viewing and public comment at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. From that website, the public will be directed to the Grants/On-Line Grant Application (OLGA) public review feature for instructions on how to submit their comments. Written public comment can also be mailed to:
