In the Rain

Clouds curl around quiet hills–powder grey angora shawls.

Blossoms, wild and garden grown, bend beneath the showers.

Drops collect on petals before sliding down the slick sides.

Dahlias drip like melting suns.

Arcs of succulents spray over fields of mint.

A doe, coat bronzed from her bath, moves through grasses heavy with grain.

Tiny droplets queue on flower filaments.

A quail couple leaves their covey.  Have they built their nest yet?

A yellow pansy shakes off wet petal ruffles in the warm breeze.

Penstemons

and poppies drip with vibrant rainbow colored drops.

A single pale rose spins pinwheel petals into diamond droplets.

Delicate wildflowers open. Dripping perfume

as the day ends…
