Fire Near Covelo

UPDATE 5:30 P.M. Friday:Calfire is reporting,

[The] Foothill Fire west of the Round Valley Airport in Covelo is now 30 acres and 100% contained!

UPDATE 8:45 A.M. Friday:Calfire is reporting

Foothill Fire [Update] west of Round Valley Airport in Covelo (Mendocino County) is 30 acres & 80% contained. Full containment by 5:00 p.m.

UPDATE 6:47 A.M: Calfire is reporting the Foothill fire is now 80% contained.

UPDATE 8:19 P.M.: The Foothill fire is 50% contained.

UPDATE:Teri at KMUD is reporting two fires—one two miles north of Laytonville as well as the Foothill fire near Laytonville.

Calfire is reporting a fire west of the Round Valley Airport in Covelo. The Foothill fire as it is called is over 30 acres with 0% containment.  It is burning in timber and steep terrain.  There are strong winds whipping up the flames. However, there is no immediate threat to structures or power lines. The fire reportedly began around 4:30 but there is no word yet on its cause.
