Saturday, Fortuna Police Make DUI Enforcement a Priority

Fortuna Police Department’s Press Release:

The Fortuna Police Department will be conducting a special DUI enforcement operation this Saturday.

On Saturday June 16, 2012, extra officers will be on duty to patrol areas within the city limits looking for impaired drivers. This operation will begin at 9:00 p.m. and run until 3 a.m.

Nearly 50 drivers have been arrested for DUI in the City of Fortuna already this year. These people put not only their lives, but our entire community at risk and the Fortuna Police Department will continue to make DUI enforcement a priority until these numbers are reduced.

While the number of DUI related deaths in California has dropped to record lows, one death is still too many. Sergeant Charles Ellebrecht continued… “Despite the harsh consequences, the department is still seeing far too many drivers make the potentially deadly choice to drive while impaired.”

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
