Where's KMUD? and KHUM?

Looking for your favorite SoHum radio station this morning, it’s not at 91.1.  Humboldt is without the Mud and without its Hum–KHUM.  Garberville had a planned PG&E outage today (From 5am to 5pm see KMUD’s page) and the landlord’s backup generator did not kick in. KMUD’s twitter feed says, “Planned PGE outage in Garberville area this morning, landlord’s backup generator at transmitter site did not start up, KMUD, KHUM off… ” Sadly, this affected their online stream, too

UPDATE 9:10am: KMUD is back for sure.  And KHUM is on but very faint.  I can barely hear it.

KMUD online stream stopped flowing because we’re currently using Wavecable for the bandwidth (cost saving measure) and the cable company has no backup power. We’ll hopefully switch the stream back to 101netlink later this morning.

KMUD’s program director says that water’s not flowing at her Garberville home. Is it normal that’s dependent on PGE?

Simon, I sent an email and called the Garberville Sanitary District hoping that someone might come in who could answer the question. It doesn’t seem normal because Gettiup was operating earlier and that would seem to necessitate water.

Simon, I got an answer from Tina Stillwell at the GSD. She said, “Homes on Sunnybank Lane, Riverview lane, and down Sprowel Creek Road would have been without water for an hour or so in the morning due to the connecting of the new Kimtu water line.
It wasn’t due to the PG & E outage. Our crew worked diligently to keep the water and sanitary systems functioning for our customer during the outage.”

The landlord’s generator on Pratt Mountain is only big enough to power our low power backup. We need for PG&E to finish to get back to full power

I read this and had to check the dial. All of my 5 stations are loud and clear.

It’s amazing how something as simple as a planned power outage can take you off the air. Planned or not, they are hard to deal with in the radio and tv business.
