If You Love a Community in the Humboldt Hills..

If you love a community in the Humboldt Hills (my love is Salmon Creek with its tiny school, robust fire department and cheery handwaves) take a moment and read about Mikal Jakubal’s visit to the Whale Gulch Labor Day gathering.  Jakubal is an independent documentary maker who lives in Briceland (another wonderful small community) and is documenting the marijuana culture here.  But, the cannabis is barely brushed over in this essay.  He just describes the beauty of the hills and the community like a travel writer who has discovered home.
