Construction Slows Traffic on the Avenue of the Giants

Chip sealing on the Avenue of the Giants is causing about 10 minutes delays.  The plan is for resurfacing from Sylvandale (already completed though re-striping etc. still needs to be done) to mile marker 11 north of Miranda.  The town of Miranda is slated for repaving with asphalt.  This should occur over the next few weeks with one way controlled traffic (Follow the pilot car) at various locations along the route.  The work should start about 7 in the morning and finish before 7 at night.  The two temporary stoplights just south of Miranda are already slowing down traffic in the area so avoid if possible.

UPDATE: The two temporary traffic lights have been removed. (Thanks, Lisa) The Miranda Walls project is finished so that will help speed things up a bit. According to Julie East, Caltrans spokesperson, “The town of Miranda will receive an asphalt overlay and new pavement markings as well. The work is scheduled to be completed within less than a month, weather permitting. This preventive maintenance project will help prolong the life of the existing pavement and needs to be done while warmer temperatures allow. ”

When I went through to Miranda last week the stoplights were gone, are they back?

Thanks, both of you. I used your information/concerns to get more precise answers from Caltrans’ spokesperson Julie East. It does sound like bus schedules might suffer a bit during the first week of school. Perhaps Caltrans and the schools could coordinate as they have in the past so that the road remains open when the buses go through? I suggest calling transportation at the schools and asking them to contact Caltrans.

Yes, but it’s not just the buses that are impacted, there are all the staff, teachers, students who drive and parents who are impacted.

The wait is not terrible but I’m right in the middle and getting my mail requires a whole new tactical scheme. I’ll sure be glad when they finish.

I’ve heard a rumor that Caltrans is attempting to coordinate with the contractor to pave through Miranda before school starts. In the end, it is up to the contractor and their schedule. Let’s keep our finger’s crossed.
