Body Found Near Black Sands Discovered by Family
Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Press Release:
On 07-27-2011, approximately 11:00 am Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Little Black Sands Beach, in Shelter Cove regarding a death investigation. When deputies arrived they met with Shelter Cove Fire Department Personnel and a Bureau of Land Management Ranger. The deputies were directed to a deceased 56-year-old male who was on the beach at the base of a cliff.
Deputies conducted an investigation and learned from family members the deceased had recently moved from Idaho to the Whale Gulch area to live with his 38-year-old stepson. The deceased left his stepsons home around 5:00 p.m. on 07-26-2011 on a motorcycle. When he failed to return home the next morning, family members began searching for him. They located his motorcycle parked at the end of Dolphin Road, near the Little Black Sands Beach area next to a cliff. When they looked off the edge they saw his body on the beach about thirty-
five feet below. The deceased appears to have slipped off the cliff and the death is being investigated as an accident.
The Humboldt County Coroners Office was called to the scene and is assisting with the investigation.

Shelter Cove can’t afford to put up a guardrail or signage on the cliff because we are too broke paying our managers $100k/yr. plus benefits to drive around all day in brand new trucks burning free gas.
