SoHum Man Linked to College Sport Fixing Scandal

Jake Salter, from Garberville, has been connected via sale of marijuana to an alleged conspiracy to fix San Diego basketball games. How the authorities got wind of the scheme (hint: break one law at a time) and much more can be found here.  It is an excellent read.

Note: I don’t know Jake well but he seems like a sweet, earnest man.  I hope he weathers this storm.

Wow, they needed driving directions to Eureka? To Petrolia or Kettenpom I could understand, but if you have to write down how to get to Eureka, um, well, your number is coming up quick one way or another.

Sounds like they have an informant. I hope it was one of the players who wouldn’t be bribed. It would totally suck to be a serious player pursuing a serious career, with all the training involved and know your team mates were intentionally throwing the game for money. What a morale killer. I don’t think people should go to jail for weed, but I don’t have a lot of sympathy for the others in this scheme.

I agree Mikal. I feel so sorry for Jake. He seems like such a sweet guy but I can’t imagine throwing the games.

It gives a whole new meaning to the term “sports medicine.”

It seems a stretch to accuse Jake of being involved in game-fixing, but that’s a risk that a person assumes when you become involved in illegal activity. That’s why marijuana brings the big-money, it’s all about the risk. I hope this doesn’t hurt his career in criminal justice.
