Four Families Without Homes In Fortuna After Fire
A four-plex at 688 Summer street in Fortuna suffered extensive damage today as a fire broke out before noon today. Local volunteers responded quickly with four crews from Campton Heights, Hydesville and the downtown area. Nearly 20 personnel turned out.
All the families were displaced. One of the families lost everything. Luckily, though no one was hurt.
Red Cross was called in to help with the one family that wasn’t able to stay with friends. Lon Winburn, an employee of the Fire Company, explained “Red Cross is great. It’s pretty nice how they step in at the drop of the hat.” Also the Ladies Auxiliary will also help. According to Winburn, “They’re wives or friends of firemen–There are 18 or 19 of them…They provide for burnt out families. They will be in touch with all four families.”
According to Taun Moody, the apt. building is the first complex on the left as you turn towards the hospital off the main road.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
