Highway 101 is Paved and Good to Go—Schools Return to Normal Schedule Tomorrow

As this photo taken by Lindsay Locke of Lost Coast Aviators shows, Caltrans and Shea Construction have removed tons of soil and trees to ready the road for tomorrow’s 6am opening.  Note the belly dumping truck dumping asphalt in rows, followed by paver with a pickup machine that lays the asphalt, while,at the far left of the dark strip, a roller compacts the final product into a smooth surface for driving on.

Soil has been removed to several spots including near Phillipsville. Drivers have been hauling through the night 24 hours per day carrying endless dump truck loads of soil from the slide.

A robo call went out to locals that all school are open tomorrow with regular bus schedules in place.

Checked your site for any news on 101 as we are going to try and get thru tomorrow coming back from Bay Area and was not looking forward to the I5 – 299 route and the 7 or 8 hour drive home so we are glad to see the news. Good job CalTrans!

Kym…

I was told you might have background info on any past Humboldt officials or any of their groups, like Board of Sups or the Planning Commission, where shipment of nuclear waste was spoken of ….possibly even use of Humboldt Bay as the import point of nuke waste from foreign sites.

Am following up our Nuke Rally around the Chernobyl 25th week anniversary at the closed plant last week, working with numbers of people and looking at it from all perspectives in establishing how there’s no way, but to end nuclear power now.

We’re putting together an action outreach paper to Humboldt folks in how all of us can best respond to this….while networking with all kinds of groups nationally.

We’ve gotta bunch of fine info that we’ve already gotten out.

Thanks for your work and any stuff you may be able to help with…..
