Humboldt Pot-astrophe Adverted?

Apparently in response to subtle federal pressure, yesterday Oakland suspended plans for several large warehouse grows.

Oakland City Attorney John Russo had warned the City Council repeatedly that federal law enforcement officials were skeptical of the city’s plans because they appeared to be in violation of state and federal laws.

Reporting from a closed-door meeting with the city attorney, the council announced that it would put plans for permitting the growing operations as well as four more medical pot dispensaries on hold while fixes were made to bring it in line with state law.

According to the Huffington Post, the Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley had warned the council that “”It remains an open question whether public officers or public employees who aid and abet or conspire to violate state or federal laws … are exempt from criminal liability.”

The Oakland City Council will revisit the issue February 1st.
